One of the most common topics we discussed in sales centers and model homes this year was prioritizing indoor air quality. Families are spending more time indoors between remote school and work, and we collectively learned a lot about the importance of clean air as well.
Even before the pandemic, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found that Americans were spending 90 percent of their time indoors on average. And while breathing the air inside your own home may seem like the safest, the statistics say otherwise.
Indoor air -- at home, work, school, and even out on errands -- can be up to five times more polluted than the air we breathe outdoors. That is why Trophy Signature Homes makes whole-home air filtration a top priority in Dallas-Fort Worth new homes.
Below, we will explore some of the features that contribute to this system and how they keep you breathing easy.
Fresh Air In
From the time you start moving into your new home, our fresh air ventilation system is working behind the scenes with an inline fan to push a controlled supply of outdoor air through the vents. This system averages 2.2 air changes per hour (ACH) to continually refresh the air too.
Trophy Signature Homes’ technology is highly efficient because it focuses the filtration efforts in livable indoor areas like the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms while using a minimum amount of energy to do it. This keeps air clean, costs low, and homes more comfortable throughout the year.
Dirty Air Out
At the end of the line, this system also pulls humidity out of bathrooms and kitchens through a local exhaust to prevent bacteria and viruses from growing in high traffic areas.
It also helps to gradually pull indoor allergens like smoke or cooking fumes out of the home as well as volatile organic compounds from paint or cleaning supplies. These can build over time to cause headaches, dizziness and even asthma if they are left lingering.
MERV Filters as the First Line of Defense
Within the larger fresh air ventilation system, Trophy Signature Homes uses MERV 11 filters to do the dirty work. MERV (or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values) describes the individual filter’s ability to capture small particles measured in microns.
A MERV 11 filter catches particles between .3 and 10 microns. The industry standard is eight.
A New Healthy Home
Interest leads to innovation and that sentiment is just as true in homebuilding. Trophy Signature Homes has offered energy-efficient and healthy solutions for new homes in DFW since we started and will continue to adapt as the needs of our buyers change.
This is one clear advantage of buying a new home and we only expect the demand to rise as we continue to learn more about the lingering effects of unclean air. To learn more about how we incorporate these features into our homes, contact us.
