If you’ve already made your home in Frisco, you already know this city has plenty of highly skilled workers and a love for golf. It’s no wonder why the PGA of America has decided to move its headquarters from Palm Beach to vibrant and ever-growing Frisco, Texas. If you’re also planning to move to Frisco, you need to know more about this major improvement to the area.
Calling the PGA’s new development a “headquarters” is a misnomer. It is really a campus. The exact location is at Rockhill Parkway and Legacy Drive in north Frisco. Its 600 acres will include two championship golf courses, as well as a short course and practice areas. The short course will even incorporate a multigenerational element. Frisco golfers can anticipate a total of 45 new holes.
The campus will also include Class AA office space, a clubhouse, a 500-room resort-style hotel, and a 127,000-square-foot conference center. Complimenting this development will be a “technologically advanced” retail village. Frisco residents will also enjoy new parks and open space including several miles of trails.
Perhaps most exciting, if you are the parent of a young golfer, the development will include a dedicated space for Frisco ISD student golfers to train. Currently, the district has 200 student golfers, but this number could very well rise in the future.
Cushman & Wakefield is managing the project, and Page is the architect. The development is already underway with a projected opening in June 2022.
In addition to the practice area for Frisco student-athletes, the new PGA headquarters is projected to benefit Frisco and its residents. Developers envision building Frisco into an epicenter for the sport of golf.
If you have your home in Frisco, you may know that the city, its development corporations, and Frisco ISD will contribute a maximum of $35 million toward the development of the public facilities on the campus. The City of Frisco will also provide performance incentives. These will include a portion of hotel occupancy and various taxes generated on the campus for a 20-year period. Even the state of Texas is helping out. They are contributing all the hotel and sales tax, as well as a portion of mixed beverage tax, for a period of 10 years.
These up-front costs should pay off, though. The development is expected to have an economic impact of more than $2.5 billion over the next 20 years. Plus, the city has ownership of the golf courses, clubhouse, and practice areas.
Of course, the development will provide jobs. The PGA is relocating some of its employees from Florida to Frisco. However, the campus itself will create plenty of new jobs, particularly in retail and hospitality.
In addition, the PGA has agreed to hold two PGA Championships (2027 and 2034) and two KPMG Women’s PGA Championships (2025 and 2031) in Frisco. The facility is actually projected to host more than 20 championships in the first 12 years of operation. The first tournaments scheduled will take place in 2023. These include the PGA Jr. League Championship and the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.
