What are Low-E windows?

Each Trophy Signature home comes with double pane Low-E Insulated windows. The two panes of glass have a thin layer of separation between them, allowing plenty of space for insulating gas—a thin, colorless and non-toxic coating that is applied to the glass in order to block out infrared light. Low-E windows save you money in the long run while also reducing the amount of destructive UV rays that enter your home, enhancing the amount of natural light throughout your home, reducing the amount of glare from the sunlight and reducing the amount of condensation that can sometimes build up on glass windows during the summer months.

How do Low-E windows work?

The thin layer of insulating gas between the two glass panes acts as a barrier against any harmful UV rays. While doing this, they are also giving off energy into our homes—ensuring that our homes lock in heat during the winter months and redirect that heat back outside during the summer months. 

Is the investment worth it?

More often than not, materials that are more energy efficient have a greater upfront cost—but in general, they often save you more money down the road. In Texas, sometimes the heat can get up to sweltering temperatures, and Low-E windows offer the perfect solution to blocking out the excessive heat and keeping your home cool. According to Energy.gov, losing and gaining heat through our homes’ windows accounts for 25 to 30 percent of heating and cooling energy use within residential homes. 

Sometimes, you hear of alternatives that can be used instead of Low-E Windows. Purchasing a roll of tinted window film is sometimes said to be an ideal option, but while this may be cheaper on your wallet right away—the tinted glass does not effectively block out UV rays or contribute to keeping your home cool or heated in the summer and winter months.
