Relocating to DFW? Here's What You Need to Know

If you’re relocating to DFW, congratulations! The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has been the number one place in the U.S. in year-over-year population growth. People flock here for many reasons, and most end up loving it here. DFW ranks #21 in Best Places to Live and #10 in Best Places to Retire by U.S. News & World Report.

Who are the major employers in DFW?

Whether you are moving to DFW with a job in place, or you plan to look for work when you arrive, DFW offers plenty of options. DFW has the third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. This list includes AMR Corporation (American Airlines), Southwest Airlines, Exxon Mobil, AT&T, McKesson, and Fluor Corporation.

Of course, DFW is home to plenty of smaller employers, as well. The top industries in the area are technology, financial services, and defenses. There are also several universities and hospital systems in DFW that supply large numbers of jobs. 

The unemployment rate in DFW is lower than both the national average and the state average. No matter where your career leads you after relocating to DFW, you can rest assured that you’ll have plenty of available options.

Is it expensive to live in Dallas?

The average cost of living in DFW is 2% higher than the national average. The median household income in DFW is about $59K, while the nationwide median is about $53K. Wages in the are also currently on the rise, so now is a great time to move to DFW.
