My home of Frisco is growing faster than I ever imagined. In the past 15 years or so, Frisco has transformed from a sparsely populated suburb, where farmland stretched on for miles, to a roaring city with homes and businesses popping up everywhere. Now, Frisco is home to more than a whopping 200,000 people and it’s only growing from here!
You might be wondering what is bringing so many folks to Frisco. Well, I made a list of things that make Frisco the best city in Texas (but I’m biased).
Star/ Legacy/ Grandscape/ Malls
Nobody would’ve guessed that, in 2022, Frisco would be a shopping hub. If you’re looking for a day of shopping fun, there are plenty of prime shopping spots all around the city like Stonebriar Mall, The Shops at Willow Bend, and Legacy West. Not to mention, Frisco has a multitude of delicious restaurant options like The City Works, Pizzeria Testa, Cane Rosso, Hutchins BBQ, and many more. Not only this, but there are plenty of places for entertainment everywhere you go. Whether that is exploring Scheels at Grandscape, walking around The Star, ordering coffee at Summer Moon in downtown Frisco, or driving around to see fireworks at Frisco Square on the 4th of July, Frisco is the place to be!
FISD
Frisco Independent School District is a nationally ranked school district based on high academic performance and a 99.4% high school graduation rate. And Frisco is competing as one of the largest school districts in Texas- with 12 high schools, 17 middle schools, 43 elementary schools, and 3 special program schools. Wow, that’s a lot!
Not only is FISD known for outstanding academics, but it is also known for its phenomenal mission statement (to know each student by name and need), the outstanding teachers, and the competitive sports programs. Not to mention, there are ample opportunities for students to get involved in clubs, accumulate volunteer hours, get started on college prep, and participate in fun activities.
Jobs
Job opportunities here in Frisco are endless. Businesses are choosing to relocate and expand to Dallas as a whole for its desirable weather and the plethora of skilled and talented people. New businesses are emerging it seems like everywhere you look. In fact, there is a new popsicle place that just opened right near my house, I’ll have to check it out soon!
Clean City
Providing a clean environment has always been a top priority for Frisco leadership and residents. In fact, Frisco received a Texas Environmental Excellence Award in 2020! It also received accolades for its reuse and disposal program and its innovative operations around recycling and trash efforts.
Active
Another reason Frisco stands out from other cities is simply how cheerful and full of life everyone is. It’s a joy watching the city come to life every morning on my way to work. If you take a second to look around, you’ll notice people walking their dogs, kids riding their bikes, and joggers enjoying the outdoors. Sometimes, it amazes me how many cross-country runners and cyclists there are at 7 in the morning (who are finishing up their workouts just as my day is getting started). I have to say, I respect them for getting up that early!
HEB
HEB is finally coming to Frisco! In the fall of 2022, HEB plus will be opening on the corner of Main St. and Legacy Dr. This is what we have all been waiting for. Not only does it carry a wide assortment of food products and fresh produce, but everything is good quality and reasonably priced. Good luck Walmart! Sorry, nothing beats HEB’s homemade tortillas!
Stadiums
Not every city can say that they are home to the Dallas Cowboy’s practice facility. You can walk around the Star while the kids toss the football on the turf field outside the Ford Stadium. Additionally, FISD occasionally let their varsity football and soccer teams host games in the stadium. My high school soccer team had the luxury of playing twice in the stadium, and frankly, those were the highlights of my high school career.
Let’s not forget the FC Dallas Stadium on the corner of Main and Dallas Parkway. The Toyota Stadium is a great place to watch soccer games, tournaments, concerts, and other events. I just watched the Zac Brown Band perform at the Toyota Stadium last month, and it was amazing. Additionally, you can visit the National Soccer Hall of Fame, located right beside the stadium and across from Frisco Square to learn about the greatest achievers in the soccer world.
Museums
There are a couple of museums around the city for those who are eager to learn more about Frisco’s history. Frisco Heritage Museum and The Museum of the American Railroad are great places to get started. There are a few others that are unique and worth checking out. The National Video Game Museum, the Sci-Tech Discovery Museum, and Frisco Art Gallery are all must-sees.
UNT Frisco
UNT at Frisco is another location of the University of North Texas. Specializing in Business and Liberal Arts, they have many classes and programs available for undergraduate and graduate studies. These classes are designed to expand your skillset, prepare you with the necessary experience, and set you up for future career success. Go Mean Green!
Frisco Public Library
The Frisco Public Library is located at the heart of Frisco Square. With a beautiful fountain in front, it’s hard to miss. The library is a great place to check out books, use printers, or even meet up with a tutor. Here you can take advantage of the computer rooms, reserve a study room, or make yourself at home with a good book and a comfy lounge chair. Upstairs, you can even get your passport renewed. And…there’s a New Frisco Public Library underway that is bigger and better!
That’s it for now folks! I hope you found this post useful, or at the least, mildly interesting. To recap, there are lots of things about Frisco that make it home. I can’t say it enough, but I, among family and friends, love it here in Frisco. Perhaps you’ll give Frisco a chance next time you’re searching the web for places to live. Bye for now future Frisconians!
Best wishes,
